How to uninstall ESET Cyber Security on a Mac.

ESET keeps its uninstaller inside the app itself. Use it, or the Uninstall item on ESET's installer disk image, rather than dragging the app to the Trash.

Uninstall ESET

  1. In Finder, open Applications, Control-click ESET Cyber Security (or Cyber Security Pro) and choose Show Package Contents.
  2. Open Contents › Helpers and double-click Uninstaller. (In version 6.0.13.0 and earlier it's in Contents › Resources.)
  3. Follow the prompts, then click Close.

Or open ESET's installer .dmg, double-click Uninstall, click Close and restart. If you see “Uninstall Failed”, ESET has a separate manual removal article.

Afterwards

Removing other antivirus apps? See Avast and Norton, McAfee, Bitdefender and Malwarebytes.

Based on ESET's own knowledge-base article, checked October 2026. Menu names can change between versions.

Then check for anything ESET Cyber Security left behind.

Once the app is gone, Pangalin Uninstaller's free Leftovers scan lists files left behind by apps that are no longer installed, by name and size. Apple's files are never included. It also shows where each one is and moves the ones you choose to the Trash in one go, with Undo.
