How to uninstall Bitdefender on a Mac.

Bitdefender puts its own uninstaller in your Applications folder. Use it rather than dragging the app to the Trash: it removes the protection components Bitdefender installs in your system folders.

Uninstall Bitdefender

  1. Open Applications, then the Bitdefender folder, and open Bitdefender Uninstaller.
  2. Tick Antivirus for Mac. Tick Bitdefender VPN too if you want to remove it.
  3. Click Uninstall and enter your Mac's administrator name and password.
  4. Click Close. If the icon stays in the Dock, Control-click it and choose Options › Remove from Dock.

Your Bitdefender subscription isn't cancelled by uninstalling. Manage it in your Bitdefender Central account.

If the uninstaller fails

Bitdefender's support lists these items to remove by hand on macOS 11.5 or later. They're in system folders, so Finder asks for your password. Bitdefender recommends a Time Machine backup first.

Then check for anything Bitdefender left behind.

Once the app is gone, Pangalin Uninstaller's free Leftovers scan lists files left behind by apps that are no longer installed, by name and size. Apple's files are never included. It also shows where each one is and moves the ones you choose to the Trash in one go, with Undo.
