About

We're two brothers who make Mac apps.

Pangalin is just Grant and Bradley. There's no team behind the team: the two of us write the code, test it on our own Macs and answer your email.

We build tools for problems we keep running into. If we're still using one a few months later, we finish it properly and release it.

Our story

It started with a full disk.

Our MacBook was 93% full, and macOS's storage screen couldn't tell us much more than “System Data”: a big grey bar with no way to see what was inside it.

We didn't want something that would “clean” the disk for us. That's how you lose files you meant to keep. We wanted a tool that shows what's there, how big it is and where it came from, and then lets us decide.

So we wrote it. That became Pangalin Space Manager, our first app, and it has since moved 118 GB off one of our own MacBooks.

Pangalin Uninstaller came next, for the settings, caches and background helpers an app leaves behind when you drag it to the Trash. It shows every file before anything moves.

We still work that way. Something annoys us, we build the simplest fix and live with it on our own Macs for months. If it sticks, it becomes an app. If it doesn't, it quietly goes away and you never hear about it.

Why a pangolin

Shy, armoured and good at digging.

That seemed about right for apps that dig through your disk and are careful with what they find.

Pangolins are the only mammals covered in scales. When something frightens them they don't fight back: they roll into a tight ball and let the scales do the work.

That's the attitude we want next to your files. Look everywhere, disturb nothing you don't have to, and when in doubt, protect first. It's why most of what our apps do can be undone.

Kala curled up: the Pangalin badge

Our pangolin is called Kala. When a pangolin is scared it rolls into a tight ball, and our round badge is Kala rolled up just like that. You'll find her curled up on pages that don't exist, and playing games in Kala's arcade.

How we work

Slowly, and on our own Macs first.

Our own problems first

Every app starts as something that kept getting in our way. If we wouldn't use it, we don't make it.

Made for the Mac

Built with Apple's native frameworks, so our apps look and behave like the rest of your Mac.

Self-funded

No outside investors. We're self-funded, so we answer directly to the people who use and buy our apps.

Used daily first

Our apps run on our own Macs, doing real work, before they reach yours.

What you can expect

Things we promise, because they're things we can control.

No claims we haven't tested

If a feature has limits, the website and the app tell you where they are.

No tracking in our apps

Our apps have no analytics, advertising or tracking. This website has no third-party analytics, no cookies and no tracking scripts; we keep only anonymous daily counts of visits and downloads. Our licence and reminder emails record only whether they were delivered, not whether you open them (see our Privacy Policy).

Reversible where possible

Most changes can be undone. When one can't, the app says so before you confirm.
