Honest about what stays free.

Pangalin Space Manager never counts space macOS frees by itself, and it warns you about caches that come back.

Three steps

Scan, check, free it up.

  1. ScanYour startup disk, another drive or one folder. The Dashboard shows what's safe to delete, what can move and what needs your review.
  2. CheckEvery item shows its real files, sizes and locations. Tap Explain when you're not sure what something is.
  3. Free it upClean, move or compress, with a review list first. Moves are verified, and you can put them back from History.

How it works

What a scan shows you.

Pangalin Space Manager groups what it finds by what you can do about it, so you're not left guessing which files are safe to touch.

Sorted by how much thought it needs.

Quick wins first, then the things worth a look, then other ways to make room. Each group says which kind it is.

  • Safe to clean: caches and the Trash
  • Review and decide: installers, temp files, Downloads, large & old files, duplicates, similar items, snapshots
  • More ways to free space: cloud drives, compress, Apple apps, Mail data
Free Up Space: Caches and Trash under Safe to clean; Installers, Temp files, Projects, Creative apps, Downloads, Large and old, Largest files, Duplicates, Similar and Snapshots under Review and decide; Shrink and Apple Apps under More ways to free space. The Caches list is open, with nothing ticked.

Move it

Your big stuff, on the drive you choose.

Move big folders to an external drive without Terminal commands. Every move is copied and checked before the original is removed, and when you want it back, choose Reinstate in History. That's free, always.

Explain

Not sure what it is? Ask.

Select a folder or file and tap Explain for a plain-English answer about what it is and whether apps need it. It's written on your Mac by Apple Intelligence, so nothing is sent anywhere.

You get 3 free answers on each Mac. A licence makes them unlimited.

And there's more

For keeping it under control.

Disks fill up again. These help you notice before yours does.

Space Watch

Choose a level of free space. Space Watch warns you when your Mac drops below it.

It only warns, unless you switch on an automatic move rule. It never deletes anything by itself.

Menu bar

Pangalin Space Manager one click away, with an optional free-space figure right in the menu bar (Settings › Appearance). Switch it off in Settings if you prefer.

Any drive or folder

Scan your startup disk, an external drive or a single folder.

What's new

3.47.1: Leftovers never offer data that installed apps or macOS still use, and nothing is ticked for you. The Apps page matches Pangalin Uninstaller: a details panel, developer groups and a Startup tab. The window keeps a size where every page fits.

The whole job, in one app.

Pangalin Space Manager now explains System Data, protects what you choose, manages startup items, and can move cold files for you when space runs low. Everything here is free to see; the small line under each card says what needs a licence.

Never Clean

Right-click anything, or open Never Clean in the sidebar, to protect a folder or an app. Protected items are never deleted, cleared or moved. Guide.

Free

Where did the rest go?

The System Data page lists the parts of used space a scan can't see: local snapshots, macOS's own volumes, Apple Intelligence models, temporary files, virtual machines and folders macOS kept from the scan. What's left is shown as Not explained, never hidden. Guide.

Free to see; thinning snapshots needs a licence

Startup items

Every login and background item, which app it belongs to, and the ones whose app is gone. Helpers still running from an app in the Trash can be stopped. Guide.

Seeing and stopping: free · switching off or removing: licence

Automatic moves

Off until you switch it on. When free space falls below your level, Pangalin Space Manager picks cold files of the kinds you chose, at most 10 items or 200 GB at a time, and moves them to your drive, only while it's connected. History puts a whole run back. Guide.

Set up and preview: free · move without asking: licence

AI model library

Every model on your Mac across Ollama, Hugging Face, LM Studio, Jan, GPT4All and ComfyUI, plus models you downloaded yourself with no app, with size, when it was last used and a re-download estimate. Park one on an external drive. Guide.

Free to see; parking counts toward the free 5 GB

Missing drive help

When a drive you moved things to isn't connected, Pangalin Space Manager says what's affected and offers to mount it.

Genuine? ticks in Apps

Every app gets a coloured tick, checked on your Mac: gold for its known developer, green for signed and notarised, amber for unsigned or broken, red for a possible fake. Ask Apple about all apps… and Check all again are in the seal menu. A tick never means an app is safe, only who signed it.

Free

Thorough uninstalls

The review lists background items built into the app, files its installer or Homebrew put elsewhere and AI apps' model folders (unticked), and resets the app's privacy permissions. Uninstall with Homebrew, Delete from Trash… for apps still running things from the Trash, and an optional Trash watcher. Guide.

Counts toward the free 5 GB

System-wide permissions such as Full Disk Access can't be reset by another app, so Pangalin Space Manager opens Privacy & Security for you to check them. Settings › Appearance offers Match System, Light or Dark.

Careful by design

How it looks after
your files.

Trash first

Removed files go to the Trash first. Caches are cleared directly because apps rebuild them, and emptying the Trash is labelled as permanent.

Verified moves

Moves are copied and checked before the original is removed. Verified moves can be reinstated from History.

You confirm

Every action shows a review list or a confirmation first. Automatic moves are off until you switch them on, and show you the list first unless you choose otherwise. Items on your Never Clean list are never deleted, cleared or moved.

Private by design

Your scans and file contents stay on your Mac. There are no analytics, telemetry or crash reports.

Its only connection on its own is one update check when it opens, which you can switch off. Ask Apple too, in the Genuine? check, goes online only when you choose it. Privacy details.

Check every finding.

Pangalin Space Manager shows real files, with their sizes and where they are, so you can check every finding yourself. Nothing changes until you choose (or switch on an automatic move rule), Preview only lets you look around with nothing changed, there are no alarms or “problems found”, and the free scan has no time limit.

Seen enough? Scan your Mac free.

You shouldn't have to buy a bigger Mac to have room. Scanning is free with no account, and so is your first 5 GB. After that, a licence removes the limit for $25 a year.

Why we built it

“Our MacBook was 93% full. We wanted to know exactly where the space had gone, and to be able to take back anything we changed. So we built the tool that does both.”
Grant and Bradley, who make Pangalin

Questions

What happens when I remove or move something?

Nothing is removed or moved until you've seen the list and confirmed (unless you switch on automatic moves). Removed files go to the Trash, so you can drag them back out until you empty it. Caches are cleared directly, because apps rebuild them, and the review says so first. Moves to an external drive are copied and checked before the original is removed, and you can put them back from History. Duplicates are merged into one copy on disk, not deleted. A few actions are permanent, and the app labels them before you confirm: emptying the Trash, deleting an app from the Trash, and uninstalling an app with Homebrew.

Do I need to use Terminal?

No. Everything in Pangalin Space Manager is point-and-click: you see what's using your space, choose what to do, and moves can be put back from History and removed files from the Trash.

Why does Pangalin Space Manager sometimes find less than other cleaners?

Because it doesn't inflate the number. Apple's own caches are marked Caution, not safe, because rebuilding some of them, like photo analysis, takes hours. We never strip language files from your apps: removing them breaks signed apps, and updates put them back. And purgeable space, which macOS frees by itself when it needs room, is never counted as space Pangalin Space Manager freed.

What happens to my duplicate files?

They're merged, not deleted. Pangalin Space Manager checks the copies are identical byte for byte, then lets them share one set of storage on the disk (an APFS clone). Every copy stays where it is with its own name, so anything that uses it still works. If you later edit or delete one copy, the others are unaffected. It works for copies on the same disk, and looks at files of 1 MB or more in the visible folders of your home folder (not Library or Applications, and it skips folders such as node_modules and .git). Full guide.

Is it safe?

Pangalin Space Manager is built to be reversible where possible: removed files go to the Trash first, moves are copied and checked before the original is removed, and moves can be reinstated from History. Caches are cleared directly, because apps rebuild them, and emptying the Trash is permanent; Pangalin Space Manager labels that before you commit. As with any tool that changes files, keep a current Time Machine backup before removing or moving a lot of files.

What do I need?

A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 13 Ventura or later. Pangalin Space Manager doesn't run on Intel Macs. To check, choose Apple menu › About This Mac: it lists a “Chip” such as Apple M1.

Why does it ask for Full Disk Access?

macOS hides parts of your own disk (Mail, Messages, other apps' containers) from every app until you grant Full Disk Access. Without it, Pangalin Space Manager still works but under-reports those areas. On first launch Pangalin Space Manager opens the right page of System Settings for you, with a small guide beside it, and carries on by itself once you switch it on. You can skip it and grant it later in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Full Disk Access. You can revoke it at any time. Full guide.

Will it delete my iCloud, OneDrive or Google Drive files?

Not by default. It can remove the local copy of an iCloud Drive, OneDrive or Google Drive file so it stays online, and it always labels that differently from deleting. It doesn't delete files from your cloud account.

What happens if I unplug the external drive?

Anything you moved stays safe on that drive. Apps that use it just won't find it until the drive is back.

How do I undo a move?

Open History, find the move and choose Reinstate. The drive the data was moved to must be connected. Full guide.

I deleted something by mistake.

Removed files go to the Trash first. Open the Trash in Finder and drag what you need back to where it was (History shows where it came from). Finder's Put Back isn't offered for files an app moves to the Trash. Once the Trash has been emptied, files can only be recovered from a backup such as Time Machine.

I moved to a new Mac and the numbers look wrong.

Migration Assistant copies apps but not their privacy permissions. Grant Full Disk Access again on the new Mac and reopen the app.

How is it different from macOS Storage settings?

macOS gives you categories and a few recommendations. Pangalin Space Manager goes down to individual folders, breaks down “System Data”, sorts what's safe to delete from what's worth moving, and does the work with a record in History.

What can I do without paying?

Scan as often as you like, with no time limit and no account, and see everything it finds. You can also free up to 5 GB on each Mac, shared by everything that frees space (cleaning, moving, shrinking, merging and uninstalling) and counted only once it has worked, and get 3 Explain answers. Deleting local snapshots and running other tools' clean-up commands need a licence, because macOS can't measure what they free; so do switching off or removing startup items and letting automatic moves run without asking. Space Watch, the menu bar, History, Undo, putting a move back, Never Clean, System Data, the Mac health check, the Genuine? check, Preview only, the clean-up report and seeing every startup item stay free, and if a licence ends, any of the 5 GB you haven't used still works. A licence, sold as a yearly subscription, removes the limits. See pricing. Full guide.

Does the 5 GB reset?

No. It's a one-off allowance for each Mac, not a monthly one, and reinstalling the app doesn't reset it. It's there so you can see Pangalin Space Manager work on your own files before you buy. Full guide.

What is Explain, and is it private?

Explain gives a plain-English answer about a folder or file you select. It's written on your Mac by Apple Intelligence, so nothing is sent to us or anyone else. Answers can be imperfect, so treat them as a guide, not a guarantee. It needs Apple silicon, macOS 26 and Apple Intelligence turned on; where it can't run, the button doesn't appear. You get 3 free answers per Mac, unlimited with a licence. Full guide.

How many Macs can I use it on?

All of your own. One licence covers every Mac you personally own or control. It's for you alone, so please don't share your licence key or pass it on. See our terms. Full guide.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. If it isn't right for you, email hello@pangalin.com within 14 days of buying (or of a renewal) and we'll refund you in full, no questions asked. Polar, which handles our payments, returns it to your original payment method. See our Refund Policy. Full guide.

Do you offer technical support plans or remote help?

No. Pangalin doesn't sell support services, and we don't offer phone or remote-access support. The app shows only what it measured on your Mac, with no alarms, “problems found” warnings or pressure to buy. If you need help, email us: it's free, and a person who makes the app replies.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Go to your subscription page, enter the email you bought with (we'll email you a code), open your Pangalin Space Manager subscription and cancel it or update your card. Step-by-step guide. We email you reminders 11 weeks, a month and a week before each renewal. Or email hello@pangalin.com and we'll do it for you. Cancelling never touches your files, and anything you moved can always be brought back. Full guide.

How do I uninstall Pangalin Space Manager?

Choose Uninstall Pangalin Space Manager… from the app menu. It removes the app's own files and reports anything it couldn't. Permissions you granted (such as Full Disk Access) are removed in System Settings › Privacy & Security. Full guide.

Still stuck? How do I contact support?

Email hello@pangalin.com with your macOS version, what you did and what you expected to happen. A screenshot helps. If we ask for a support bundle, export one from Pangalin Space Manager's Help menu and attach it: it holds scan timings, settings and recent actions, never the contents of your files. A person who works on the app will reply.
