How to uninstall Malwarebytes on a Mac.
Malwarebytes installs a system extension and a network filter for its protection, so don't just drag it to the Trash. Use its own Uninstall command, which removes those parts too.
Uninstall Malwarebytes
- Click the Malwarebytes icon in the menu bar and choose Open Malwarebytes.
- In the menu bar, choose Help › Uninstall Malwarebytes.
- Click I'll risk it to confirm.
- Enter your Mac password and click OK.
If that doesn't work
Malwarebytes offers a separate uninstall tool, MB-Mac-Uninstall, on its support site. Open it, click Yes to remove all Malwarebytes software, enter your password, then delete the tool and restart. Malwarebytes notes that leftovers from an incomplete uninstall can stop it reinstalling later.
Download the tool only from Malwarebytes' own site (help.malwarebytes.com).
Afterwards
- Check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for anything still named Malwarebytes; see login items. An app that's still in your Trash can stay listed there until you empty the Trash or restart; that's normal macOS behaviour.
- Empty the Trash when you're sure. Emptying the Trash is permanent.
Based on Malwarebytes' own support articles, checked October 2026. Menu names can change between versions.
Then check for anything Malwarebytes left behind.
Once the app is gone, Pangalin Uninstaller's free Leftovers scan lists files left behind by apps that are no longer installed, by name and size. Apple's files are never included. It also shows where each one is and moves the ones you choose to the Trash in one go, with Undo.
