How to uninstall Avira on a Mac.
Avira's uninstaller starts by itself when you move Avira to the Trash. If it doesn't, for example after a macOS update, Avira documents a fallback.
Uninstall Avira
- In Finder, choose Go › Applications.
- Drag Avira to the Trash.
- Follow Avira's uninstaller, then click Finish.
- Empty the Trash.
If the uninstaller doesn't start after a macOS update, Avira's support article gives this command to run it from Terminal:
/Applications/Utilities/Avira-Uninstall.app/Contents/MacOS/Avira-Uninstall
Afterwards
- Check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for anything still named Avira; see login items. An app that's still in your Trash can stay listed there until you empty the Trash or restart; that's normal macOS behaviour.
- Empty the Trash when you're sure. Emptying the Trash is permanent.
Removing other antivirus apps? See Avast and Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky and Malwarebytes.
Based on Avira's own support articles, checked October 2026. Menu names can change between versions.
Then check for anything Avira left behind.
Once the app is gone, Pangalin Uninstaller's free Leftovers scan lists files left behind by apps that are no longer installed, by name and size. Apple's files are never included. It also shows where each one is and moves the ones you choose to the Trash in one go, with Undo.
