How to uninstall Tuxera NTFS on a Mac.
Tuxera puts an uninstall button in its System Settings pane. That's the method Tuxera prefers.
Uninstall Tuxera NTFS
- Open System Settings and click Microsoft NTFS by Tuxera in the sidebar (or search for
tuxera). - Click the padlock and enter your password, if shown.
- Click Uninstall Microsoft NTFS by Tuxera….
- Restart your Mac before installing another version or another NTFS driver.
Tuxera's support site also has uninstall scripts for each version and the optional removal of its preferences and activation; follow them from Tuxera's page exactly if you need them, because a typo in those commands can delete other files.
Without an NTFS driver, macOS can still read NTFS drives but not write to them. To keep using a Windows drive on your Mac for both, reformat it as exFAT (erasing it) after copying its contents off.
Afterwards
- Check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for anything still named Tuxera; see login items. An app that's still in your Trash can stay listed there until you empty the Trash or restart; that's normal macOS behaviour.
- Empty the Trash when you're sure. Emptying the Trash is permanent.

Then check for anything Tuxera NTFS left behind.
Once the app is gone, Pangalin Uninstaller's free Leftovers scan lists files left behind by apps that are no longer installed, by name and size. Apple's files are never included. It also shows where each one is and moves the ones you choose to the Trash in one go, with Undo.
