How to uninstall AVG AntiVirus on a Mac.
AVG AntiVirus has its own uninstaller, in the app's menu and as a separate app in Applications.
Uninstall AVG AntiVirus
- Open AVG AntiVirus and choose AVG AntiVirus › Uninstall AVG AntiVirus in the menu bar. (Or open AVG AntiVirus Uninstaller in Applications.)
- Click Continue.
- Enter your Mac password and click Install Helper.
- Wait for it to finish, enter your password again if asked, and click Finish.
Your Mac has no AVG protection after this; macOS's built-in protections stay on.
Afterwards
- Check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for anything still named AVG; see login items. An app that's still in your Trash can stay listed there until you empty the Trash or restart; that's normal macOS behaviour.
- Empty the Trash when you're sure. Emptying the Trash is permanent.

Then check for anything AVG AntiVirus left behind.
Once the app is gone, Pangalin Uninstaller's free Leftovers scan lists files left behind by apps that are no longer installed, by name and size. Apple's files are never included. It also shows where each one is and moves the ones you choose to the Trash in one go, with Undo.
