How to uninstall Grammarly on a Mac.
Grammarly for Mac (shown in Finder as Grammarly Desktop) has no separate uninstaller: quit it and move it to the Trash. Because it starts at login, macOS sometimes says it's still open.
Uninstall Grammarly
- Click the Grammarly icon in the menu bar and choose Quit.
- In Finder, open Applications.
- Move Grammarly Desktop to the Trash.
If macOS says it can't be moved because it's open
- Click the Grammarly icon, choose Settings… › Customization and turn off Launch at startup.
- Restart your Mac, and don't reopen windows when you log back in.
- Move Grammarly to the Trash again.
Grammarly's browser extensions are separate: remove them in each browser (see removing browser extensions).
Afterwards
- Check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for anything still named Grammarly; see login items. An app that's still in your Trash can stay listed there until you empty the Trash or restart; that's normal macOS behaviour.
- Empty the Trash when you're sure. Emptying the Trash is permanent.
Based on Grammarly's own support articles, checked October 2026. Menu names can change between versions.
Then check for anything Grammarly left behind.
Once the app is gone, Pangalin Uninstaller's free Leftovers scan lists files left behind by apps that are no longer installed, by name and size. Apple's files are never included. It also shows where each one is and moves the ones you choose to the Trash in one go, with Undo.
