How to uninstall 1Password on a Mac.
Removing the 1Password app is a drag to the Trash. Its local data stays until you remove it too, which 1Password describes, with an important warning.
Uninstall 1Password
- Quit 1Password from its menu-bar icon. In 1Password 7, choose Quit 1Password Completely.
- Drag 1Password from Applications to the Trash.
Remove its local data (optional)
Check first. 1Password warns this removes all your local 1Password data, including backups. Make sure your vaults are on another device or in your 1Password.com account before you continue.
In Finder, hold Option and choose Go › Library, then move these to the Trash:
- In
Application Support: folders with “1Password” in the name. - In
Preferences: files withcom.agilebitsorcom.1passwordin the name. - In
Containers: folders withcom.agilebitsor1Passwordin the name. Keep1Password for Safariandcom.1password.safariif you still use 1Password in Safari. - In
Group Containers:2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebitsor2BUA8C4S2C.com.1password.
Then empty the Trash and restart. The browser extension is removed separately, in each browser.
Afterwards
- Check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for anything still named 1Password; see login items. An app that's still in your Trash can stay listed there until you empty the Trash or restart; that's normal macOS behaviour.
- Empty the Trash when you're sure. Emptying the Trash is permanent.
Based on 1Password's own support article, checked October 2026. Menu names can change between versions.
Then check for anything 1Password left behind.
Once the app is gone, Pangalin Uninstaller's free Leftovers scan lists files left behind by apps that are no longer installed, by name and size. Apple's files are never included. It also shows where each one is and moves the ones you choose to the Trash in one go, with Undo.
