How to remove browser extensions on a Mac.
Extensions add features to your browser, but each one can read some of what you browse, and old ones you've forgotten about are worth clearing out. Every browser has its own place to remove them.
Safari
- Choose Safari › Settings and click Extensions.
- Select an extension and click Uninstall. (Unticking it only turns it off.)
Safari extensions usually come inside an app. If Safari tells you to remove the app, delete that app from Applications to remove the extension too; see uninstalling apps.
Google Chrome
- Right-click the extension's icon in the toolbar and choose Remove from Chrome, or
- click the ⋮ menu, choose Extensions › Manage Extensions, click Remove on the extension and confirm.
Firefox
- Open the menu (☰) and choose Add-ons and themes, then Extensions.
- Click ⋯ next to the extension and choose Remove. (The switch only turns it off.)
If Remove isn't available because another app installed the extension, Mozilla suggests turning it off, then removing the app that added it.
An extension keeps coming back?
Something is reinstalling it: usually an app that came with it, or a configuration profile. Check System Settings › General › Device Management (Privacy & Security › Profiles on macOS 14 and earlier) for a profile you don't recognise. On a work or school Mac, extensions may be required by your organisation.
