How to uninstall Firefox on a Mac.
Removing Firefox is a simple drag to the Trash. Your bookmarks, history, passwords and cookies stay on your Mac in your Firefox profile until you remove that too.
Uninstall Firefox
- Quit Firefox (Firefox › Quit Firefox).
- Open Applications in Finder.
- Drag Firefox to the Trash.
Remove your profile (optional)
Only if you want your bookmarks, history and saved passwords gone from this Mac. Mozilla suggests backing up your profile first, or make sure Firefox Sync has a copy.
- In Finder, open the Go menu, hold Option and choose Library.
- Open Application Support and move the Firefox folder to the Trash.
On macOS 27: macOS keeps apps from outside the App Store out of Firefox's folder unless they have Full Disk Access. Finder still opens it as above. If you use Pangalin Uninstaller, give it Full Disk Access first (System Settings › Privacy & Security › Full Disk Access); without it, the app lists the folder as "couldn't be checked" and leaves it alone.
Removing Chrome instead? See uninstall Google Chrome.
Afterwards
- Check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for anything still named Firefox; see login items. An app that's still in your Trash can stay listed there until you empty the Trash or restart; that's normal macOS behaviour.
- Empty the Trash when you're sure. Emptying the Trash is permanent.
Based on Mozilla's own support article, checked October 2026. Menu names can change between versions.
Then check for anything Firefox left behind.
Once the app is gone, Pangalin Uninstaller's free Leftovers scan lists files left behind by apps that are no longer installed, by name and size. Apple's files are never included. It also shows where each one is and moves the ones you choose to the Trash in one go, with Undo.
