How to uninstall Box Drive on a Mac.
Box recommends its Box Reset Tool to remove Box Drive from a Mac. Before you start, make sure everything has finished uploading.
Check your uploads first. Box says files that haven't finished uploading are moved to a dated “Box-Box (…)” folder rather than lost, but it's simplest to let everything sync before you remove Box Drive. Your files stay in your Box account online.
Uninstall Box Drive
- Quit Box Drive.
- Download the Box Reset Tool from Box's support article “Uninstalling Box Drive” at support.box.com, and open it.
- Choose Uninstall, then Continue, and enter your Mac password if asked.
- Click OK when it's done. The tool saves a log in a dated folder on your Desktop.
Box's article also gives Terminal commands for older setups; follow them from Box's page if the tool doesn't work for you.
Removing other cloud drives? See OneDrive, Dropbox and Google Drive.
Afterwards
- Check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for anything still named Box; see login items. An app that's still in your Trash can stay listed there until you empty the Trash or restart; that's normal macOS behaviour.
- Empty the Trash when you're sure. Emptying the Trash is permanent.
Based on Box's own support article, checked October 2026. Menu names can change between versions.
Then check for anything Box Drive left behind.
Once the app is gone, Pangalin Uninstaller's free Leftovers scan lists files left behind by apps that are no longer installed, by name and size. Apple's files are never included. It also shows where each one is and moves the ones you choose to the Trash in one go, with Undo.
