How to uninstall MacKeeper on a Mac.

MacKeeper's uninstaller runs when you move the app to the Trash, but only if MacKeeper was quit properly first. Its help pages also list leftover folders to check afterwards.

Uninstall MacKeeper

1. Quit MacKeeper from its menu (MacKeeper › Quit, or ⌘Q). Closing the Dashboard window isn't enough, and the uninstall won't finish.
2. In Finder, open Applications.
3. Drag MacKeeper to the Trash (or Control-click it and choose Move to Trash).
4. Click Continue, and confirm with Touch ID or your password.
5. If MacKeeperUninstaller asks for permission, click Allow.

Uninstalling doesn't cancel a MacKeeper subscription; MacKeeper has a separate help article for cancelling.

Leftovers MacKeeper lists

MacKeeper's help lists these for older versions; check for them after any uninstall and move what's there to the Trash:

• ~/Library/Application Support/MacKeeper
• ~/Library/Application Support/com.mackeeper.MacKeeper and com.mackeeper.MacKeeperAgent
• ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.mackeeper.MacKeeperAgent.plist
• ~/Library/Caches/com.mackeeper.MacKeeper and com.mackeeper.MacKeeperAgent

Then empty the Trash and restart. If you used MacKeeper 3's Data Encryptor, decrypt those files before uninstalling.

Afterwards

• Check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for anything still named MacKeeper; see login items. An app that's still in your Trash can stay listed there until you empty the Trash or restart; that's normal macOS behaviour.
• Empty the Trash when you're sure. Emptying the Trash is permanent.
