How to uninstall HP printer software on a Mac.
HP doesn't have one uninstall page for the Mac. Its troubleshooting steps use HP Uninstaller if you have it, and otherwise remove HP's folders by hand.
Remove HP's software
- In Finder, open Applications, then the HP or Hewlett Packard folder.
- If HP Uninstaller is there, open it and follow the prompts. You're done.
- If it isn't, drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash.
- Use Spotlight (⌘Space) to find the Printers folder, and drag its HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash.
- Restart your Mac and empty the Trash.
To remove the printer itself from your Mac, use System Settings › Printers & Scanners. “Reset printing system” there removes all printers, scanners and print jobs, so only use it if you mean to.
Afterwards
- Check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for anything still named HP; see login items. An app that's still in your Trash can stay listed there until you empty the Trash or restart; that's normal macOS behaviour.
- Empty the Trash when you're sure. Emptying the Trash is permanent.
Based on HP's own support article, checked October 2026. Menu names can change between versions.
Then check for anything HP printer software left behind.
Once the app is gone, Pangalin Uninstaller's free Leftovers scan lists files left behind by apps that are no longer installed, by name and size. Apple's files are never included. It also shows where each one is and moves the ones you choose to the Trash in one go, with Undo.
