How to uninstall GlobalProtect on a Mac.

Palo Alto Networks removes GlobalProtect through its own installer, which has an Uninstall GlobalProtect option. You need an administrator account.

Work or school Mac? GlobalProtect is usually installed by an IT department, and removing it can cut you off from your organisation's network. Ask your IT team first; they may need it installed, or may remove it for you.

Uninstall GlobalProtect

  1. Download the GlobalProtect installer for Mac from your organisation's GlobalProtect portal and open it.
  2. Click Continue, then Continue again at Destination Select.
  3. At Installation Type, tick Uninstall GlobalProtect and click Continue.
  4. Click Install, enter your password and click Install Software.
  5. If macOS asks about removing GlobalProtect's system extension, enter your password and click OK.

If you can't get the installer, Palo Alto Networks documents an uninstall script inside the app, run in Terminal:

sudo /Applications/GlobalProtect.app/Contents/Resources/uninstall_gp.sh

Once it's removed you lose VPN access to your organisation's network.

Afterwards

Based on Palo Alto Networks' own GlobalProtect documentation, checked October 2026. Menu names can change between versions.

Then check for anything GlobalProtect left behind.

Once the app is gone, Pangalin Uninstaller's free Leftovers scan lists files left behind by apps that are no longer installed, by name and size. Apple's files are never included. It also shows where each one is and moves the ones you choose to the Trash in one go, with Undo.
