How to uninstall CrashPlan on a Mac.
CrashPlan keeps its uninstaller in its Application Support folder. Before a full removal, check for backups other computers sent to this Mac.
Check first. CrashPlan warns that its folder can hold backupArchives: backups other computers sent to this Mac. Move that data somewhere safe before removing CrashPlan completely. Uninstalling also deletes CrashPlan's backup logs.
Uninstall CrashPlan
- In Finder, press ⇧⌘G.
- Type
/Library/Application Support/CrashPlan/Uninstall.app(installed for everyone) or~/Library/Application Support/CrashPlan/Uninstall.app(installed just for you), and click Go. - Double-click Uninstall and follow the prompts.
If Finder says the folder can't be found, download the CrashPlan installer for Mac and use the Uninstall app inside it. Other signed-in users on the Mac can stop the uninstall finishing.
For a complete removal, CrashPlan says to then delete the CrashPlan folder in Application Support too. That also removes the identity file it keeps so a reinstall can carry on where it left off.
Afterwards
- Check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for anything still named CrashPlan; see login items. An app that's still in your Trash can stay listed there until you empty the Trash or restart; that's normal macOS behaviour.
- Empty the Trash when you're sure. Emptying the Trash is permanent.
Based on CrashPlan's own support article, checked October 2026. Menu names can change between versions.
Then check for anything CrashPlan left behind.
Once the app is gone, Pangalin Uninstaller's free Leftovers scan lists files left behind by apps that are no longer installed, by name and size. Apple's files are never included. It also shows where each one is and moves the ones you choose to the Trash in one go, with Undo. It's free.
