How to uninstall Anaconda on a Mac.
Recent versions of Anaconda Distribution (2025.06 and later) and Miniconda (24.11.1 and later) include an uninstall script. Anaconda's documentation explains how to use it, and what to save first.
Before you start
Export any environment you want to keep, so you can recreate it later (replace myenv with its name):
conda env export --name myenv > myenv.yaml
Uninstall Anaconda or Miniconda
- Open Terminal and run
conda deactivate. - Run the uninstall script inside your installation folder:
~/anaconda3/uninstall.shor~/miniconda3/uninstall.sh. If you installed it for all users with the .pkg installer, it's in/opt/anaconda3or/opt/miniconda3and needssudo -Ein front. - Follow the prompts.
The script has options to also remove caches, configuration files and user data. Anaconda advises against them if you have more than one conda installation. Older versions without the script are removed by hand; Anaconda's “Uninstalling Anaconda Distribution” page covers that, including conda init --reverse --all first.
Afterwards
- Check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for anything still named Anaconda; see login items. An app that's still in your Trash can stay listed there until you empty the Trash or restart; that's normal macOS behaviour.
- Empty the Trash when you're sure. Emptying the Trash is permanent.
Based on Anaconda's own documentation, checked October 2026. Menu names can change between versions.
Then check for anything Anaconda left behind.
Once the app is gone, Pangalin Uninstaller's free Leftovers scan lists files left behind by apps that are no longer installed, by name and size. Apple's files are never included. It also shows where each one is and moves the ones you choose to the Trash in one go, with Undo.
