How to update an app.
Each app can check for a newer version themselves. Pangalin Space Manager can also install it for you. Updating keeps your settings, history and, for Pangalin Space Manager, your licence.
Pangalin Space Manager
Pangalin Space Manager checks for a newer version once each time it opens. When there is one, a strip appears at the top of the window: “Version … is available”.
- Click What's new if you'd like to read the release notes first.
- Click Update. Pangalin Space Manager downloads the new version, checks it's signed by us and notarised by Apple, installs it over your current copy and reopens. The old copy goes to the Trash.
To check yourself at any time, choose Pangalin Space Manager › Check for Updates…. If you're up to date, it says so.
Prefer to do it by hand? Click Download… instead, or download from the download page, then drag the new app onto Applications and choose Replace.
If Update doesn't work
- “Running from the disk image”: you opened Pangalin Space Manager straight from the downloaded disk image, which macOS keeps read-only. Drag it to your Applications folder, open it from there and try again.
- “Can't update itself where it's installed”: the folder it's in isn't writable by your user. Download the new version and drag it over the old copy instead.
- “Couldn't reach the update server”: check your internet connection and try later. Nothing else is affected.
Turn automatic checks off (or on)
- Choose Pangalin Space Manager › Settings… (⌘,) and click Privacy.
- Under Automatic network requests, switch Allow automatic update checks off.
With it off, Pangalin Space Manager stays offline until you choose Check for Updates… yourself.
Pangalin Uninstaller
Pangalin Uninstaller is offline by default: it never checks for updates unless you ask it to.
- Choose Pangalin Uninstaller › Check for Updates…. If a new version is out, a banner says “Version … is available”.
- Click Download. Your browser opens the download page and downloads the new version.
- Quit Pangalin Uninstaller (⌘Q).
- Open the downloaded file, drag Pangalin Uninstaller onto Applications and choose Replace. Your settings are kept.
Settings shows the full result of a check. Choose Pangalin Uninstaller › Settings…, click Updates and use Check Now.
Turn automatic checks on (or off)
- Choose Pangalin Uninstaller › Settings… (⌘,) and click Updates.
- Tick Check for updates automatically. It then checks when the app opens, at most once a day.
What an update check sends
Nothing about you. Each app downloads a small file listing the latest version and checks our signature on it, so a fake update can't be offered. The check sends no account, licence key, identifier or information about your files.
- Pangalin Space Manager's file comes from pangalin.com.
- Pangalin Uninstaller's comes from our release feed on GitHub.
Like any web request, it reaches the server from your internet address. See our Privacy Notice.
