How to install a Pangalin app.
Pangalin Space Manager and Pangalin Uninstaller install the same way: download a disk image, drag the app to Applications, open it once. It takes about two minutes, and no account is needed.
Before you start
Pangalin Space Manager and Pangalin Uninstaller need a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 13 Ventura or later. To check, choose Apple menu › About This Mac: it lists a “Chip” such as Apple M2, and the macOS version.
1. Download
- Go to the download page for Pangalin Space Manager or Pangalin Uninstaller. The download starts by itself.
- When it finishes, open your Downloads folder and double-click the file, for example
SpaceManager-3.45.0-859.dmg. A window opens saying “Drag to Applications to install”, with the app on the left and your Applications folder on the right.
2. Drag it to Applications
- Drag the app's icon onto the Applications folder in that window. macOS copies it in a few seconds.
- Eject the disk image: in the Finder sidebar, click the eject button ⏏ next to the app's name. You can then move the
.dmgfile to the Trash; you don't need it again.
Open it from Applications, not from the disk image. An app run straight from the disk image is read-only, so it can't update itself later.
3. Open it for the first time
- Open your Applications folder and double-click the app.
- macOS checks it and asks whether you want to open an app downloaded from the internet. Click Open. Both Pangalin apps are notarised by Apple, so this question appears only once.
4. Accept the terms
The first time it opens, the app shows a short welcome sheet before it does anything else.
- Read the three points on the sheet. The Licence Terms and the Privacy Notice open inside the app, so you can read them offline.
- Tick the box to agree. It starts unticked, and Accept and Continue stays greyed out until you tick it.
- Click Accept and Continue. Accepting sends nothing over the network. If you don't agree, click Quit.
Nothing is scanned or changed before you accept. You see this sheet again only if the terms change.
5. Permissions
Pangalin Space Manager
Pangalin Space Manager shows One quick step: Full Disk Access. macOS hides Mail, Messages, Photos and most of your Library from every app until you allow it, and that's often where the space is.
- System Settings opens by itself at Privacy & Security › Full Disk Access, on the left of your screen. Pangalin Space Manager moves its window to the right, and a small guide appears just to the right of System Settings, moving with it if you move that window.
- Drag the app icon from the guide into the list, or find Pangalin Space Manager there, and switch it on. macOS may ask for your password or Touch ID; that's macOS confirming the change, and we never see it.
- Pangalin Space Manager notices when access is on (“Full Disk Access is on”), comes back to the front and starts your first scan. If macOS offers to quit and reopen it, let it: the reopened app finishes the step.
Rather not? Click Skip this step. The scan still works, with less: totals read low because it can't see the protected folders. You can grant access later: see Give Pangalin Space Manager Full Disk Access.
Pangalin Uninstaller
Pangalin Uninstaller shows Two quick steps. You can skip either one.
- Full Disk Access (optional). System Settings opens at the Full Disk Access list, on the left of your screen, and a small panel on the right shows the app's icon. Drag the icon into the list, or switch on Pangalin Uninstaller there. The app notices and moves on by itself. Or click Skip this step.
- Background helper. macOS's own window opens by itself and asks you to approve a small helper, with your password or Touch ID. It lets Pangalin Uninstaller move apps macOS owns (App Store and installer apps) to the Trash, manage system startup items and remove leftovers in system folders. To skip it, click Cancel in that window; the app offers it again the first time it's needed.
- Click Continue.
After an update with new terms, these steps come back only if Full Disk Access is off or the helper isn't installed.
App Management: macOS asks for this the first time you uninstall an app. Click Allow.
Next
- Bought a Pangalin Space Manager licence? Activate it.
- Free to use: Pangalin Space Manager scans for free, and you can free your first 5 GB at no cost. Pangalin Uninstaller is completely free, with nothing to activate.
If something goes wrong
- “The app can't be opened” or “unidentified developer”: you may have an old or damaged download. Delete it, download again from pangalin.com, and open the new copy from Applications.
- Finder asks whether to replace an existing copy: you already have the app. Choose Replace to install the new version over it. Your settings and licence are kept.
- The app won't open on an Intel Mac: our apps run only on Apple silicon Macs.
