How to uninstall Pangalin Uninstaller.
Use the app's own Uninstall Pangalin Uninstaller… command: it removes the background helper (if you added it) and the app's settings, as well as the app. Dragging the app to the Trash on its own would leave the helper installed.
Before you start
- Want something back that you removed? Files the app removed stay in your Trash until you empty it, so you can still drag them back to where they were after uninstalling. Finder's Put Back isn't offered for files an app moves to the Trash, so check the activity log first (below): it lists where each item came from.
1. Run the uninstall command
- Choose Pangalin Uninstaller › Uninstall Pangalin Uninstaller….
- Read the message, then click Uninstall. To change your mind, click Cancel.
It removes:
- the background helper, if you added it, and the macOS approval rule it uses
- the app's settings
Then it moves itself to the Trash and quits. Your other apps and files aren't touched. Normally no password is needed. If the helper doesn't respond, macOS asks for your password once to remove it; if you cancel, nothing is changed.
If it says macOS wouldn't let it move itself, drag Pangalin Uninstaller from Applications to the Trash yourself. Everything else is already done.
2. What it keeps and leaves
These stay behind on purpose, so you can still check what the app did.
- The activity log: a list of what was removed, kept in
~/Library/Application Support/Pangalin Uninstaller. To delete it, in Finder choose Go › Go to Folder… (⇧⌘G), paste~/Library/Application Support, and drag the Pangalin Uninstaller folder to the Trash. - Removed Startup Items: if you removed system startup items, they're in
/Library/Application Support/Pangalin Uninstaller/Removed Startup Items, not in the Trash. Check you don't need anything there, then drag thePangalin Uninstallerfolder in/Library/Application Supportto the Trash. macOS asks for your password because it's a system folder.
3. Remove the permissions (optional)
- Choose Apple menu › System Settings › Privacy & Security.
- Open App Management, select Pangalin Uninstaller and click the – button below the list. Do the same under Full Disk Access if you granted it.
Already dragged it to the Trash?
If you never added the background helper, nothing is left running. The app's settings stay, which is harmless. If you did add the helper, the simplest fix is to reinstall:
- Put the app back from the Trash, or download it again.
- Open it and choose Uninstall Pangalin Uninstaller….
Comfortable with Terminal? These three commands remove the helper by hand. Each asks for your administrator password (nothing appears as you type it).
sudo launchctl bootout system/com.pangalin.uninstaller.helper
sudo rm /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.pangalin.uninstaller.helper.plist
sudo rm /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.pangalin.uninstaller.helper
Still on version 1.4? Its uninstall command doesn't remove the helper. Update to the latest version and choose Uninstall Pangalin Uninstaller… (macOS asks for your password once), or use the commands above.
