How to uninstall Pangalin Space Manager.
Pangalin Space Manager has its own uninstaller. Use it rather than only dragging the app to the Trash: it also switches off the parts that run in the background and deletes the app's own data.
Before you start
- Moved folders to an external drive? They stay on that drive, and the shortcuts left in their place keep working while the drive is connected. Uninstalling doesn't move anything back. If you want a folder back on your Mac, open History, find the move and choose Reinstate (with the drive connected) before you uninstall.
- Your files and your Trash aren't touched. Anything Pangalin Space Manager moved to the Trash is still there until you empty it.
- Subscription: uninstalling doesn't cancel it. To stop it renewing, cancel it online.
1. Run the built-in uninstaller
- Open Pangalin Space Manager and choose Pangalin Space Manager › Uninstall Pangalin Space Manager….
- A sheet, Remove Pangalin Space Manager from this Mac, lists what will happen. Read it, then click Remove it. To change your mind, click Cancel.
- When it's finished, it shows a short report: what was Removed and what's Still on this Mac. Click Show the app in Finder, then Done.
It removes:
- the login item, the Space Watch background watcher and the helper
- environment settings it made for other apps
- other apps' startup items it switched off, which are switched back on
- its own history, logs, cache and settings
2. Move the app to the Trash
An app can't delete itself while it's running, so this last step is yours.
- Quit Pangalin Space Manager (⌘Q).
- In the Finder window that opened, drag Pangalin Space Manager from Applications to the Trash. No restart is needed.
3. Remove the permissions (optional)
Permissions you granted belong to macOS, so only you can remove them.
- Choose Apple menu › System Settings › Privacy & Security › Full Disk Access. Select Pangalin Space Manager and click the – button below the list. macOS may ask for your password or Touch ID.
- If you used Space Watch, choose System Settings › Notifications, click Pangalin Space Manager and switch Allow notifications off.
4. What stays in your Keychain
The uninstaller keeps four small items in your Mac's Keychain on purpose:
- your licence key, so reinstalling doesn't ask for it again
- the counters for the free 5 GB and the free explanations, so reinstalling doesn't restart them
- a date check that stops a licence being extended by changing the Mac's clock
None of them holds your files, and none leaves your Mac.
To remove them too:
- Open Keychain Access: press ⌘Space, type
Keychain Accessand press Return. - Make sure login is selected on the left, then type
com.pangalin.spacemanagerin the search field. - Select each item named
com.pangalin.spacemanager.license, press Delete and confirm.
If you reinstall later, you'll need to paste your licence key again.
Already dragged it to the Trash?
Then its background parts may still be registered. The simplest fix: put Pangalin Space Manager back (or download it again), open it, and choose Uninstall Pangalin Space Manager… as above.
If the report says it couldn't remove the helper, choose System Settings › General › Login Items (called Login Items & Extensions on newer macOS) and switch Pangalin Space Manager off under Allow in the Background.
