How to uninstall Proton Drive on a Mac.
Proton Drive's steps are to sign out, quit, and remove the app and its folders. Proton warns this deletes the data stored in its folder on your Mac.
Back up first. Proton says removing these folders deletes all the data stored in Proton Drive's folder on your Mac, and it can't be recovered. Files already synced stay in your Proton account online.
Uninstall Proton Drive
- Click the Proton Drive icon in the menu bar, open Settings and choose Sign out.
- Click the icon again and choose Quit.
- Move Proton Drive from Applications to the Trash.
- Move the folders below to the Trash, then empty it.
Folders Proton lists
~/Library/Application Support/FileProvider/ch.protonmail.drive.fileprovider- In
~/Library/Containers:ch.protonmail.drive,ch.protonmail.drive.fileproviderandch.protonmail.drive.launcher.ProtonDriveMacLauncher - In
~/Library/Group Containers:2SB5Z68H26.ch.protonmail.protondriveandgroup.ch.protonmail.protondrive ~/Library/Preferences/2SB5Z68H26.ch.protonmail.protondrive.plist
Other cloud drives: OneDrive, Dropbox and Google Drive.
Afterwards
- Check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for anything still named Proton Drive; see login items. An app that's still in your Trash can stay listed there until you empty the Trash or restart; that's normal macOS behaviour.
- Empty the Trash when you're sure. Emptying the Trash is permanent.
Based on Proton's own support article, checked October 2026. Menu names can change between versions.
Then check for anything Proton Drive left behind.
Once the app is gone, Pangalin Uninstaller's free Leftovers scan lists files left behind by apps that are no longer installed, by name and size. Apple's files are never included. It also shows where each one is and moves the ones you choose to the Trash in one go, with Undo. It's free.
