Is Pangalin Uninstaller safe?
Yes, if you read what it shows you before you confirm. It removes nothing until you've seen every file, almost everything goes to the Trash, and your most recent removal can be undone in one click. A few actions are permanent, and the app says so before you choose them. Here's exactly where the lines are.
What it never touches
- macOS itself and Apple's own apps. They're never offered for removal, and protected system folders are refused.
- Anything you haven't ticked. Nothing moves until you confirm the review list.
- The internet. It works offline, with no account, no ads and no analytics. It doesn't even check for updates unless you turn that on.
Where removed files go
- Uninstall, Leftovers and Reset move files to the Trash. Undo puts your most recent removal back in one click. For anything older, drag it back out of the Trash yourself. Pangalin Uninstaller never empties the Trash for you.
- Shared files start unticked. Audio plug-ins that other apps may use, and every item in the Leftovers tab, start unticked, with a note saying why. You only remove what you choose.
- Files macOS owns (App Store and installer apps, items in the Mac-wide
/Library) need your approval in macOS's own window, with your password or Touch ID. The app never sees your password.
The few things Undo can't reverse
Each of these says so on screen before you choose it:
- Uninstall with Homebrew. For apps Homebrew installed, Pangalin Uninstaller can run Homebrew's own uninstall, so Homebrew's records stay correct. It shows you the exact command first. Homebrew deletes the app instead of moving it to the Trash, so to get it back you reinstall it (
brew install --caskand the app's name). The leftovers you tick still go to the Trash. - Delete from Trash…. For a removed app that's still in the Trash and keeps background items running, this permanently deletes just that app, after you confirm it by name. The rest of your Trash isn't touched.
- Resetting an app's privacy permissions (Camera, Microphone, Photos and so on). This harms nothing: the app simply asks again next time you open it. Untick that row if you'd rather keep them.
- Startup items. Switching one off is reversible: switch it back on in the same place. A launch agent you remove goes to the Trash. A system item you remove doesn't go to the Trash: it's kept in
/Library/Application Support/Pangalin Uninstaller/Removed Startup Items, so you can move it back by hand if you need it.
What the coloured ticks prove, and what they don't
The Genuine? check reads each app's signature on your Mac. Gold means it's signed by its known developer, green means an identified developer signed it and Apple notarised it, amber means unsigned or a broken signature, and red means a possible fake.
A signature tells you who made an app and that it hasn't been changed since. It doesn't tell you the app is safe. Developers can be careless, and a few bad actors have held valid certificates until Apple revoked them. Ask Apple too, in an app's details, checks Apple's live service for a revoked certificate.
Still, the ticks catch the common trap: a look-alike copy of a popular app from a download site, signed by someone other than its real developer, gets a red tick.
What the AI is for
On a Mac with Apple Intelligence (Apple silicon, macOS 26), Explain, “What is this app?” and the uninstall summaries put technical file names into plain words. They run on your Mac; nothing is sent anywhere. The answers are a guide and may be imperfect. They're display-only: nothing the AI says ticks or unticks an item or changes what gets removed. You decide.
The short version
- Read the review list. Untick anything you're unsure about, especially shared items.
- Check your apps still work for a few days before you empty the Trash.
- Leave the permanent options alone unless you understand them. Move to Trash always works instead.
See it for yourself.
