How to uninstall a JetBrains IDE on a Mac.

How you remove IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm or another JetBrains IDE depends on how you installed it: through the JetBrains Toolbox App, or on its own.

Installed with the Toolbox App

  1. Open the JetBrains Toolbox App.
  2. Next to the IDE, open its ⋯ menu and choose Uninstall.

Installed on its own

  1. Quit the IDE.
  2. Move it from Applications to the Trash.

Settings and caches (optional)

JetBrains keeps your settings after an uninstall, so a reinstall picks them up. To remove them too, move the folders for that product and version to the Trash:

To remove the Toolbox App itself, JetBrains says to uninstall it like any other app: move it to the Trash.

Afterwards

Based on JetBrains' own documentation, checked October 2026. Menu names can change between versions.

Then check for anything JetBrains IDE left behind.

Once the app is gone, Pangalin Uninstaller's free Leftovers scan lists files left behind by apps that are no longer installed, by name and size. Apple's files are never included. It also shows where each one is and moves the ones you choose to the Trash in one go, with Undo.
