How to manage startup items in Pangalin Space Manager.
Updaters, menu-bar helpers and sync agents start every time you log in. Pangalin Space Manager lists them with the app each one belongs to, so you can switch off what you don't need, and stop helpers that keep running after their app went to the Trash.
See what starts with your Mac
- Click Apps in the sidebar (⌘4), then the Startup tab. The same list is in Pangalin Space Manager › Settings… › Startup Items.
- Under Yours are login items that start when you log in. Under For everyone on this Mac are Mac-wide items in
/Library. - Each row is named after the app it belongs to, with the item's name and location underneath. Tags say Off, Running or App is gone.
macOS's own items are never listed or changed. Seeing the list is free.
Switch one off or remove it
- Switch Off stops it starting at your next login. It's renamed, not deleted, and Switch Back On undoes it at any time.
- Remove… unloads it and moves it to the Trash, after you confirm.
- Mac-wide items ask for your approval (password or Touch ID). A removed Mac-wide item needs an administrator to put back by hand.
Switching off and removing need a licence, because they free no space Pangalin Space Manager can count against your free 5 GB. Switching back on is always free.
Items apps register themselves
Items an app registered from inside itself are listed under Registered by apps, without buttons. macOS manages these: click Open Login Items & Extensions Settings and switch them off there, or uninstall the app.
Apps in the Trash that still run things
macOS keeps an app's login and background items while the app is in the Trash, and can start them again at your next login.
- Running from apps in the Trash lists helpers still running. Stop ends one now; it's free. Empty the Trash so it can't start again.
- Apps in the Trash with background items offers Delete from Trash…. It permanently deletes only the app you name, so macOS drops its items at your next restart. It never empties the Trash and can't be undone. It's free, and needs Full Disk Access.
If you uninstall Pangalin Space Manager
Every startup item Pangalin Space Manager switched off is switched back on.
