How to get a plain-language explanation.
Not sure what a leftover file is, or what an app does? Pangalin Uninstaller can tell you in a sentence or two. The answer is written on your Mac by Apple Intelligence, Apple's on-device model, and nothing is sent anywhere. Look for the ✨ button. It's free and unlimited, like everything in Pangalin Uninstaller.
Explain a file or leftover
- Find the item: in the review before an uninstall, in Leftovers, or in Startup.
- Point at its row. A ✨ button appears near the end of the row.
- Click ✨. A Plain-language explanation opens, saying what the item is and, only where Pangalin Uninstaller's own note makes it clear, whether removing it is safe.
Ask “What is this app?”
- Click Apps and select an app to open its details.
- Click What is this app? under its name. You get one short sentence about what kind of app it is and who makes it.
The button appears only when the app states its own category or its developer is known, so there's something real to go on. In the app list, the same ✨ appears when you point at an app whose developer is known.
Summarise an uninstall
- Click Uninstall… next to an app and wait for the review to finish finding its files.
- Click Summarise in plain language. A two-sentence summary says what moves to the Trash and, if anything is kept because it's shared with other apps or holds a licence, that it stays on your Mac.
- Check the list itself, then click Move … to Trash as usual. The button shows how many items are ticked.
The button shows once the review has loaded and at least one item is ticked.
What Apple Intelligence is given
Only facts Pangalin Uninstaller has already found. It is never given the contents of your files.
- A file or leftover: its name, kind, size and the app it belongs to, plus Pangalin Uninstaller's own note about it.
- A startup item: its name and the path of the program it runs, with your home folder shown as “~”.
- What is this app?: the app's name, category, developer and version.
- An uninstall summary: the app's name and the number and total size of the items that will be removed or kept.
Everything runs on your Mac: nothing goes to us, to Apple's cloud or to any other AI service. Answers are kept in memory so reopening one is instant, and are forgotten when you quit.
Answers can be wrong
Every answer is labelled Written on your Mac by Apple Intelligence · may be imperfect. An explanation describes; it never decides. It doesn't tick, untick, remove or move anything, and Pangalin Uninstaller's own ratings and checks stay as they are. Check the item itself (its name, size and location) before acting on what an explanation says. If an answer can't be written, you'll see Couldn't write this time — try again.
Don't see the ✨?
The buttons are hidden on Macs where Apple Intelligence can't run, and the rest of the app works as normal. Pangalin Uninstaller says why in a banner, in Settings › AI and in the Help popover, with a checklist of What Apple Intelligence needs:
- a Mac with Apple silicon
- macOS 26 or later
- Apple Intelligence turned on, in System Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri
- the same language for your Mac and for Siri (even English (US) and English (South Africa) count as different)
- a language and country Apple Intelligence supports
- about 7 GB of free space, and internet while the model downloads
- on a work or school Mac, not turned off by your organisation
Once everything's in place, come back to Pangalin Uninstaller and the ✨ appear by themselves. Settings › AI also has a Check Again button. These checks only read your Mac's own settings.
