How to uninstall Rancher Desktop on a Mac.
Rancher Desktop's documentation says moving the app to the Trash leaves its data behind. Reset it first, then remove its folders for a complete removal.
Uninstall Rancher Desktop
- Optional, for a cleaner removal: in Rancher Desktop, choose Troubleshooting › Factory Reset.
- Quit it, then move Rancher Desktop from Applications to the Trash and empty the Trash.
- For a full removal, move these to the Trash (this deletes everything, including snapshots):
- In
~/Library/Application Support:rancher-desktopandRancher Desktop ~/Library/Preferences/rancher-desktop,~/Library/Caches/rancher-desktopand~/Library/Logs/rancher-desktop~/.rd(a hidden folder in your home folder)
Deployment profiles an administrator set up stay behind on purpose.
Afterwards
- Check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for anything still named Rancher Desktop; see login items. An app that's still in your Trash can stay listed there until you empty the Trash or restart; that's normal macOS behaviour.
- Empty the Trash when you're sure. Emptying the Trash is permanent.

Based on Rancher Desktop's own documentation, checked October 2026. Menu names can change between versions.
Then check for anything Rancher Desktop left behind.
Once the app is gone, Pangalin Uninstaller's free Leftovers scan lists files left behind by apps that are no longer installed, by name and size. Apple's files are never included. It also shows where each one is and moves the ones you choose to the Trash in one go, with Undo. It's free.
