How to find and move your AI models.
Local AI models are often 4 to 40 GB each, and they pile up across Ollama, LM Studio, Hugging Face and other tools. Pangalin Space Manager's AI Library lists them all, biggest first, with when each one was last used, so you can park the ones you don't use on an external drive.
See your models
- Click Move to External in the sidebar (⌘3) and open AI Library.
- The Your models card lists each model with its tool and format (GGUF, MLX or safetensors), its size, and whether it was read today, is unused for a number of days, or its last use unknown. It also says roughly how long the model would take to download again.
It covers Ollama, Hugging Face (including MLX models), LM Studio (wherever its home folder is), Jan, GPT4All, ComfyUI and Stable Diffusion. Ollama models share parts, so using one can make a related model look recently used.
Park a model on an external drive
- Plug in the drive, then click Park on External… next to a model you don't use often.
- Pangalin Space Manager moves it and leaves a shortcut, so the app still finds it while the drive is plugged in.
To move a whole tool's store at once, use Move store to external… on its row. Moves count toward your free 5 GB, and you can put any of them back from History.
Make it official in Ollama
After you move Ollama's store, Pangalin Space Manager checks Ollama's own setting. If it still says Make it official in Ollama, open Ollama › Settings › Model location and choose the folder on your drive, then click Check Again. Until then Ollama reaches its models through the shortcut, which works only while the drive is connected. Pangalin Space Manager only reads Ollama's setting; it never changes it.
Duplicate models
Same model downloaded twice shows models stored more than once, with Compare and Merge…. Same model, different formats shows one model kept in more than one format, so you can decide which to keep.
